How the year is flying by!
March marks the third month of the year, by the end we will be an eye watering 1/4 of the way through the year! We are already hurtling through 2023.
I use the first day of the month to consciously sit down and re-evaluate my goals and habits. I find this is a great reminder of what I want my days and therefore my life to look like.
1. 3 monthly goals
The first thing I do is look at my goals for the year. How close am I to achieving these? What small steps can I take this month to get closer to reaching them?
I pick 3 goals (new or old) that I want to be my focus for the next few weeks and that I can realistically accomplish within the month. For bigger goals, I break them into smaller things. For example, one of my goals for the year is to go on a solo trip, but this month, my goal is to create an itinerary for the trip
2. Wheel of life
This is a non-negotiable evaluation tool in my opinion. It allows you to break your life into 10 aspects. I use: education, health, friendships, finances, family and my business.
Each aspect is given a space on the wheel and divided into 10. I can shade in the aspect out of 10 to give me a visual representation of which areas I want to work on, and which areas I am excelling in.
3. New Habits
From my wheel of life I can see which aspects of my life need improvement. I choose the top three and create a habit for them. For example:
Health --> meal prep on sundays
Finances --> Listen to a finance podcast for 20mins a day
Business --> Spend the first hour of my day on Will & Way admin
Habits are so powerful in changing your life. I promise if you can stick to your habits for a month you will see dramatic change.
4. Morning & Evening routines
I love a good sleep in, but I also love the feeling of starting the day knowing I've set myself up for success. If I'm ever stuck in a rut I find that optimizing my morning routine is a game changer.
I start by writing down everything I want to accomplish in the morning. For me, this includes: journalling, movement, shower, breakfast, skin care and business admin. I allocate each task a time and work backwards from when I need to leave for work. This routine is now your ideal routine. Obviously life gets in the way - I work till 10pm once a week and I know that if I woke up early the next day I would be much worse off than if I indulge in more sleep.
A great morning starts with a great evening. I use the last part of my day to set myself up for the next one. I often write out a to-do-list and prioritize my top three tasks the night before. I pack my bags, choose an outfit and try to stay off my phone. If you have trouble falling asleep, I've found closing my eyes to an audiobook or a podcast is a great way to distract yourself from late night thoughts that might otherwise keep you up.
5. Habit tracker
Finally, I use a habit tracker to keep me accountable for the habits I want to put into action. I usually track things I do every day such as making my bed, sticking to a budget, movement and journaling. Keep in mind you will have off days, but it's interesting to see the patterns over the month!
